What is Singpass?
Singpass is Singapore residents' national digital identity for secure and convenient transactions with the government and private sector, online and in person.
Through the Singpass app, users can manage their information and access a myriad of everyday services, whether it is logging in to digital services without using passwords, proving their identity over counters without presenting identification documents, or digitally signing contracts on their phone.
Accelerated adoption in the wake of Covid-19
In the wake of the pandemic Singapore could see accelerated adoption of their new eID solution, especially since it played a key part of the country’s contact tracing program. Last year the total transactions doubled to over 170 million and the user count is now reaching 2.4 million users.
Today Singpass is used to access more than 1,400 everyday services in Singapore and besides government agencies it is utilized by close to 200 private sector organisations already.
For banks in Singapore, it’s already becoming a standard when onboarding new customers.
